How Much Do You Know About Modified Plastics?

Plastic is a polymer as the main component of the material, composed of synthetic resins and fillers, plasticizers, stabilizers, lubricants, color materials and other additives,  in a fluid state during the manufacturing and processing process, to facilitate the shape, when processing is completed it will present a solid shape.

The main component of plastic is a synthetic resin. Resins were originally named after lipids secreted by plants and animals, such as rosin, insect gum, etc., and synthetic resins (sometimes referred to directly as "resins") refer to polymers that have not yet been mixed with various additives. Resin accounts for about 40% to 100% of the total weight of plastics. The basic properties of plastics are mainly determined by the nature of resins, but additives also play an important role.

Why should plastics be modified?

The so-called "plastic modification" refers to the method of changing its original performance and improving one or more aspects of its performance by adding one or more other substances to the plastic resin, so as to expand its scope of application. The modified plastic material is collectively referred to as "modified plastics".

Plastic chemical research and development so far, has synthesized thousands of polymer materials, including only a hundred kinds of industrial value, plastic commonly used resin raw materials more than 90% concentrated in the five general resins (PE, PP, PVC, PS, ABS), and now continue to synthesize a large number of new polymer materials is very difficult, neither economic nor realistic.

Therefore, in-depth study of polymer composition, structure and performance of the relationship, and on this basis to modify the existing plastics to create suitable new plastic materials, has become one of the effective ways to develop plastics industry, the global plastics industry has been developed in recent years.

How can plastics be modified?

Plastic modification refers to the physical, chemical, or both ways to change the performance of plastic materials in the desired direction, or to significantly reduce costs, or to improve certain properties, or to give plastic materials a new function. The process of modification can occur in the process of synthetic resin polymerization, i.e. chemical modification, such as co-polymerization, branching, crosslinking, etc., can also be carried out in the process of processing synthetic resin, i.e. physical modification, such as filling, mixing, enhancement.
